Artists on the Plaza

This summertime program takes place on the South Plaza of the Old State Capitol at noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Free performances range from singer/songwriters, to musical ensembles, to dancers, and the casts of local musical theater productions. It’s a great way to break up the work day or simply enjoy the sights and sounds of Downtown Springfield.

Old Capitol Farmer's Market (May 18th-October 29th)
Adams Street between 5th and 2nd Streets; variety of produce, cheese, baked goods, plants, meats and other specialty items. Open Wednesdays and Saturdays, 8:00 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Also includes local artisans, entertainment and Celebrity Chef Demos. Free.

Pied Piper Downtown Architectural Walking Tour (May -October)
Guided walking tour highlights interesting architectural facts and structures. Meets at Lincoln-Herndon Law Office at 5:30 p.m., held first Wednesdays. Free.

First Fridays Downtown (First Fridays February, March and April)
Start your weekend downtown with unique shopping, dining, the arts, cocktails & entertainment. First Fridays each month; 5:00 - 8:00 p.m.

Old Capitol Blues and BBQs (August 26th-27th)
5th & Washington Streets; features 40+ BBQ competitors and vendors; locally and nationally known Blues talent and children’s activities. $5 admission; 12 and under free. 6:00 p.m. - Midnight Friday; Noon - Midnight Saturday.

Old Capitol Holiday Walk (December 7, 8, 14, 21, 2010 5:00 – 8:00 p.m.)
Extended shopping and dining hours; Santa House, horse drawn trolley, lighted holiday tree, gingerbread houses, gift certicicate raffle, free entertainment. Free and open to the public. December 7, 8, 14, 21, 2010 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Free and open to the public.
